By Ken Little, About.com

Definition: Market capitalization or market cap is a way of measuring the size of a company and is calculated by multiplying the current stock price by the number of outstanding shares. A stock trading at $55 with 100,000,000 outstanding shares would have a market cap of $5.5 billion.
