Editor’s Note: This is the fourth is a series of brief reviews of major financial Web sites.
Perhaps the granddaddy of financial news sites is CNN Money. The original television news channel, CNN, has a successful Web site, which covers financial news and other topics.
At one time, the all-news television network had a sister channel that covered the markets and financial news 24/7.
When the markets tanked following the dot.com bust, the demand for a separate television news channel fell and the stand-alone cable channel disappeared.
However, CNN Money lives on as a sub-Web site of the popular CNN.com.
CNN Money also covers technology, personal finance, small business and other topics.
Here Are Some Strong Points:
- True to its origins, CNN Money has a strong financial news presence. Not much will happen in the markets without being reported here.
- The Web site teams with partners such as Time and Fortune, which offer more in-depth financial articles.
- The site covers a wide range of investing and personal finance topics. Don’t look for serious in-depth articles, but they cover many areas well.
Here Are Some Weak Points:
- Company stock quotes and profiles are thin compared to other sites.
- While the site covers financial news well, you may find other sites in this review more comprehensive in coverage and analysis.
Conclusion:
CNN Money is a go-to site for financial news and information, including a broad range of topics from personal finance to small business to technology. It should be on everyone’s must check out list.
