There is nothing particularly significant about the Dow closing above 13,000 on July 30. However, it is a good time to note that the index has climbed out of a very deep hole starting in early 2009. If you chart the closes of the Dow since January of 2009, you will see how much and how fast a market can recover. Still, some three plus years is a long time to wait for a return to near normal numbers.
We aren't back to pre-2008 market numbers, but the trend is good, even if it seems incredibly slow.
Patience is not a virtue for the long-term investor, it is a necessity.
