Will 2008 End on Brighter Note for Stocks?

Monday January 21, 2008
The first weeks of 2008 have been terrible for the stock market, but there are still many trading days left in the year.

It might be helpful to remember the market is coming off five straight years of positive returns as measured by the three major indexes (the Dow had a slight dip in 2005).

This wasn’t the bull market of the late 1990s, but it wasn’t bad.

The three major indexes closed 2007 with less than spectacular returns:

  • Nasdaq Composite: up 9.8%
  • Dow: up 6.4%
  • S&P 500: up 3.5%
The question for investors is when will the market anticipate an end to the recession.

On that day, we may see the beginning of another bull market run.

Where will the Dow be at the end of 2008? Take the Poll

The road ahead for stocks looks rocky, but could this be the big correction before the renewed bull market - or the dark before the storm of recession? Register your vote on where you think the Dow will be at the end of 2008 by visiting this page.

I have been an avid reader of Ken Little’s works. He has made me got interested in investing in Stocks in my country Nigeria. Am benefitting. On my own I pulled some of his articles together which I read regularly and which I labelled “Educate Yourself On The Basics of Stocks and Stocks Trading”. It is my wish to send it for printing as a friend who read it thought it would educate the publics so much on stock trading. I wish to seek the permission of Ken Little for this project. I will be too happy to hear from you. My regards, Andrew J. Nanna, Lagos, Nigeria.

All the reccession talk is spurred on by the media. Because of the level of loan defaults, there is sure to be corrective action in the financial sector and other related sectors. I expect bargain hunters, like myself to come out shortly, possibly by Friday and buy up all these deals. The economy is strong! Don’t be a chicken little!
